Glee - 218 - Born This Way

Original air date: April 26, 2011

We are back in with Glee and thankfully, they only do the one Gaga song this episode, it's not a tribute. Boy did those tribute episodes scar me, I'm just fearing them as if they're lurking in every bush. I'm that meme of the anime character looking at the butterfly, if the butterfly was Glee and I was asking "Is this a tribute episode?" I'm too lazy to make it, so just use your imagination. Before we dive in, I just need to say that there is a content warning on this recap.

***CONTENT WARNING: Bullying and abuse regarding mental health***

Will thinks that the kids were great at singing for Regionals but their dancing needs work to be at Nationals level. So, he tells them it's booty camp time and I side eye him because I know how much he's sexualized these kids already and how much worse he's going to get. I'm watching you, Will. Anyway, as they're dancing, Finn smacks Rachel in the nose and she reveals that she's bleeding. Finn apologizes and I'm just kind of laughing at how much they're running with the joke that Cory can't dance that they've just written that in for his character.

At the doctor's office, Rachel is waiting to hear what the x-rays say. Finn has gone with her and she tells him he can go but he feels terrible and offers to stay. Her fathers will supposedly be there in 15 minutes but we all know we're not going to see them. Rachel worries that Quinn will be jealous but Finn insists she understands how guilty he feels as to why he'd stay. The doctor informs her that her nose is broken and then...then the grossness starts. The doctor says it's a clean break so he won't have to set it and that it's the perfect time to do a vanity adjustment. He does mention her deviated septum but like, he's clearly trying to sell her on changing her nose. A 16 year old. Even grosser, he calls this a right of passage for Jewish girls. Just the girls. It's both anti-Semitic and misogynistic. Cool. Cool cool cool cool. Rachel is even confident and loves the way she looks and the doctor just keeps cutting her down and telling her that she should look her best if she wants to get into acting. He also shits on her love of Barbara by saying she's one in a million and that she basically needs a nose job to make it in the industry. He immediately asks if he can sign her up. I hate this man with a burning passion and he's only a fictional person but like, I know that a lot of plastic surgeons act like this.

Can I just say that the beauty standards for women have gotten so fucking insane that it's scary. If you don't look like a Barbie, people are even questioning if you're really a woman. That's gross to both Cis and Trans women and I won't abide it. I also want to punch any supposed doctor that would pressure a young girl like this, sans her parents, to get unneeded surgery. I sincerely hope something like this wouldn't happen as parents are generally required to be in the room with minors, but then there are those parents that encourage or pressure their kids to do this stuff themselves so, crap.

We cut to Quinn asking Rachel if she's going to get a nose job. Rachel insists it's to fix her deviated septum and that she's only considering it. Will points out the risks involved and that she's already got a great voice. Santana cuts the positivity by telling everyone that there are things they'd all like to change and that's reality. (Side note, money is never brought up as an obstacle in this episode but for a lot of people looking good is kind of out of reach and for those who have or don't care about going in debt, they can get addicted to fixing things. It's almost a form of ED or BD and it's a serious issue that this show will not bring up)  It's a shame because I think this is a great topic to discuss on a show like this but it also kind of falls flat when the main show runner, Ryan Murphy, also helmed a show all about plastic surgery. Also, because it's this show, the message gets lost in all the mean jokes it makes regarding people. Mike points out that Tina is wearing blue eye contacts, which I didn't notice at all but then calls her a self-hating Asian. Santana points out that Finn has weird nipples and is of the position that if you see something you don't like in the mirror, you should change it. Will is as saddened as I am to hear this type of defeatist attitudes from adults portraying 16 year olds but Mercedes says that what makes you different is what people tend to get picked on for.

Cut to Will in Emma's office as they both work to polish her fruit. He's worried for Rachel and says that she's beautiful and shouldn't be insecure about how she looks. Emma points out that adults have a hard time accepting their eccentricities so how could they expect kids to? Will wants to show them how to love themselves and set an example for them. He then asks if they can stop polishing fruit but Emma says that they can when they're done. He wants her to try out techniques that work her through her issues rather than helping her to enable her condition. He literally just offered to be her helper last episode. I realize that time lapses between episodes happen but to the viewer, it just looks like Will has given up after the first attempt. Even though, he is right that she should get help, I just think it's funny that he's portrayed as already sick of her shit. Emma doesn't like using the term OCD but prefers Neat Freak or Cleany Bug. Honestly, I kind of love Cleany Bug. She doesn't see the need to work on it because even though she wasn't born this way, it's her lot in life now. That is so sad and I would seriously be asking if she's ok but instead, Will gets an idea how to help his kids and it's with Gaga!

Excited then disappointed face
My face when I heard this because I'm still traumatized
from the tribute episode

Next we cut to Santana defacing Quinn and Finn's prom poster. We get a voice over where she tells us she wants to be the Queen of the school and then makes me kind of hate her by reasoning that it's because she could get Brittany to dump Artie and get with her. You can kind of laugh but then she spells it out for us that Brittany is "so gullible, that I could convince her that by royal decree, I'd made her being with me the law of the land." That's gonna be a yikes from me. Holy cow, I can't believe people can root for this ship because it is making me so uncomfortable. Writing and characterization matter because other than these lines, I like the idea of Brittana and the characters do have chemistry but holy cow does it seem like the writers are trying to get us to hate this ship.

Anyway, Santana wonders if she can get the jock vote if she dates a jock. Sam walks by and does a Sean Connery impression for her and she decides he doesn't have the "juice" to get her to Prom Queen status. Ouch, didn't she just start dating him? Well, I mean it makes sense she's not that affected by the relationship because she's clearly only got eyes for Brittany. Instead, her sights land on Karofsky who she sees check out Sam's ass. I kind of like how weirdly perceptive Santana is all the time. Like she's just there, reading everyone accurately on sight. It's honestly a great build up and pay off from the little altercation from A Night of Neglect where you can see how that little glance she spots clicked the last piece of the puzzle in for her. I would say that's great planning but, knowing RIB, I'm pretty sure this was purely accidental.

We cut to Mercedes, Santana, Tina, Blaine, and Kurt hanging out and talking about how Kurt is not going to New York because he sucks and picked the losing team. I'm paraphrasing here, pretty sure they were nicer. Blaine claims he'd be good with it if it weren't for Karofsky and that gives Santana a brilliant idea. She's going to reform Karofsky, bring back Kurt, and date Karofsky all for the chance at being Prom Queen.

At Glee club, Finn asks what the hell Emma is doing there and he tells them about this week's assignment because these writers are so fucking dull that they thought they needed to write the episodes this way and then had the gall to complain about how formulaic their own show is. You're the writers! Write it how you want, you do these weekly assignments because you're too lazy to actually write a good story that can incorporate songs without this crutch. Sorry, mini rant this just grinds my gears. Don't acknowledge and make fun of your problems if you're not willing to change. Anyway, the assignment is for the kids to sing a song about accepting themselves for your best and worst parts. The second part is that they are going to perform a group number on the same theme and the song is Born This Way by Lady Gaga. Everyone is excited but Finn is still confused about why Emma is here.

Emma explains that she's there to help with costuming for the big group number. Everyone is going to get a fitted white t-shirt and then she'll use a letter press to write a word on it that describes a part about themselves that they don't like so that they can wear it with pride. She specifically says things you were born with that you'd like to change but can't and I want you to remember this because the kids ask for an example and Will encourages Emma to show them her shirt. She unbuttons her jacked to reveal a shirt that says "GINGER" and I thought it was pretty funny but also like, true? Will is disappointed because he's Will but she cuts him off and explains why she picked GINGER to be her word and it's valid ok. I really don't get the vibe that the show is trying to push where she is hiding her true shame or whatever. She was, in fact, born as a ginger and will always be ginger whether or not she dyes her hair. She did the assignment as required. I don't get why Will expected her to write OCD on her shirt because she even expressly states at the beginning of this episode that she was not born with OCD, it was something that developed in her after trauma.

Emma revealing a shirt that says GINGER on it
You claim your gingerhood, Emma!

Lauren is checking out the crowns for Prom Queen and we find out she also would love to be Prom Queen but doesn't think she can. She used to do beauty pageants as a toddler but then the "shoddy Zizes thyroid kicked in as well as a love of chips" and she was booted out of the circuit. Oof. Can we just tear down the whole institution of Beauty Pageants? Especially for children? There is something deeply unsettling about the way people doll up their preschoolers to be judged by weird adults on their prettiness. I hate it. I don't think it does any good for anyone's self-esteem. Anyway, Puck tells her that she's going to change all of that because he's going to make sure she's Prom Queen and he's going to be her King. I'll give them that it's a sweet moment.

Rachel and Quinn are waiting in the doctor's office together. Rachel thanks Quinn for doing this but Quinn is flattered and can't believe she hasn't been asked before since her nose is awesome. She asks if she can count on Rachel's vote which is supposed to maybe make her look not that great or shallow but like Rachel asked her so the least she could do is vote for Quinn. Am I weird? Anyway, the doctor comes in and asks if Rachel is pulling the trigger but what she wants is for him to take pictures of her and Quinn and make up a composite to see what she'd look like with Quinn's nose. We then are treated to an absolutely gorgeous mash up of I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and Unpretty by TLC. I love it so much and I can't believe I forgot it was in this episode because I've been waiting for this one. I could just junk the rest of this episode and keep this one section and be fine.

We next cut to three random girls who are looking at a poster asking to vote Lauren Zizes as Prom Queen. They want to vote for her because she looks like them and is an inspiration. Quinn sees this and immediately tracks down Lauren to threaten her. Prom Queen is for Quinn and she'll be damned if anyone takes it from her. Quinn asks her if she's running as a joke and then mocks her, saying that everyone will vote for her as a joke and it'll end up with her in a Carrie situation. Lauren isn't having that and I do like that about her character. She does not cower to bullying, she hits right back and tells her that not everyone is born pretty like her. Quinn threatens her that it's gotten personal now and storms off.

Santana has asked Karofsky out to the coffee place, the Lima Bean seems to be replacing Breadstix as the hangout place for these kids. Anyway, she basically calls him out for being gay and blackmails him into becoming each others' beards so that they can run for Prom King and Queen. This is one of those times where I'm just mildly uncomfortable with a plot point. It's just for entertainment and the framing is that Santana is a bitch for doing this so I'm just going to say that everyone's sexuality is their own business and they should be able to share it with people when they are comfortable. No one should be forced to do something out of fear that they will be exposed like this. It's a shitty thing to do.

Through a weirdly stylized (for this show) camera angle, we see Finn getting mad at Quinn for encouraging Rachel to get a nose job. Quinn just says she helped her because she wanted her nose and then gets mad that they're even fighting about her. Finn says that Will is trying to teach them about accepting themselves and she's helping Rachel do the opposite. Quinn says that she's not down with this lesson but Finn loves the lesson. Hmm, wonder why Quinn has such a problem with this lesson?

We cut to the choir room where Finn and Mike are dancing and singing I've Gotta Be Me from Golden Rainbow. I've never heard of this but it's cute how much Finn is trying to follow Mike's moves and it's just, sweetie, you're not going to be Mike Chang good. Will congratulates Finn for embracing his faults and Finn excitedly asks if he's getting better. Will doesn't answer the question and looks relieved when Rachel wants to take the floor. She's excited to tell everyone about her possible nose job but before she can reveal the pictures, Tina interrupts to tell her that she's self-hating and that even though she doesn't like the shape or colour of her eyes sometimes, she needs to be the change she wants to see and is aspiring to be an Asian role model. Mike immediately wants to make out with her but Will shuts that down, literally the only time I've seen a teacher be a teacher in a weird moment in class. Rachel finally shows her picture of what she'd look like with Quinn's nose. Only Quinn seems to be impressed while everyone else dogpiles her. Rachel doesn't care what the others think though, she's made up her mind and is getting the nose job.

Will goes to Emma's office. She asks him how the assignment is going and that's what Will wanted to talk to her about. He then says that he was disappointed in the word she put on her shirt and that she should have put OCD on it. I really hate this. Yes, she should absolutely get help with her OCD especially since it basically killed her marriage with John Stamos (yes they said it was because she was in love with Will but that makes me rage black out and I prefer to think that the idea of sex kind of grosses her out because germs), but the whole point of the assignment was for people to choose the thing they were born with that they wish they could change but can't and she did it. I know they think the ginger thing is a joke and that it's ridiculous that she would pick it but, in my opinion, it was perfectly valid. Especially after South Park gave everyone the stupid National Kick a Ginger Day and claimed that they have no souls and people have run that joke so far into the ground that it's become a thing people with red hair get dragged for. I hate that Will is belittling her here because that is not the way to get someone to get help. You can't badger someone into changing when they're not ready. It can be heart breaking and frustrating to see someone you know needs help but won't get it but all you can do is support them and suggest resources they can look into. What Will needs to understand is that as a caregiver to someone with mental health issues, you need to remember three Cs: You didn't Cause it. You can't Control it. You can't Cure it. Will really, really needs to take a hard look at the last two because right now, he's trying desperately to control and cure it and I can get where that urge comes from but it's not his job or his place to do so. If you are a loved one of someone with mental health issues, please, please remember these three Cs. For your own sanity and mental health; and please don't think you can bully someone into getting help.

Anyway, let's get further enraged because he flat out tells her she has anxiety and that they just humour it because she functions well and is "cute about it". Gross. Emma, of course, gets defensive and says that she'll put "loon" on her shirt because they all think she's crazy. Then Will insists she eats lunch with him and brings out unwashed fruit. He eats it in front of her and offers her some but she is clearly upset and grossed out. I feel so bad for her right now. I'm getting as upset as her and I don't have issues with unwashed fruit (though you really should actually wash them but like run them under some water first, don't scrub them with baby wipes), it's because Will is being so fucking rude and insensitive to her. She's pleading with him to stop and he just keeps going, giving himself a pass because "he's just helping her get better". This is not the support he seemed to be offering in the last episode, this is just mean. He then has the gall to tell her she's deflecting and that she counsels people to avoid working on herself. I hate Will.

No, you know what? I need to break this down some more. Remember when Emma was excitedly talking about Rocky Horror? She was getting messy and eating unwashed fruit with Carl? She happily talked about this. This scene reads to me like Will got so enraged and envious about Carl and how he was able to bond with Emma and have her relax in a way that he never could. So, here he is with his unwashed fruit just shoving it in her face, demanding that she behave the way she did with Carl and it feels so goddamn upsetting and gross and enraging. I can't with this scene. Don't treat people with mental illness this way. Don't treat people this way. It's fucking disgusting and I'm going to put a trigger warning at the beginning because I can't imagine this scene is particularly great for anyone, especially those with mental health disorders, to see. I'm so sorry. Do get help when you feel ready.

Figgins has brought Karofsky to the Glee club to apologize. None of them are buying it but Karofsky gives a heartfelt speech about how awful he was and how he wants to change. He credits Santana with helping him, to the shock of everyone, and they lay out their plan to end bullying at the school. We cut to Santana and Karofsky patrolling the halls in matching red berets. Santana has dubbed them the Bully-Whips which is kind of clever and says they'll be the guardian angels of the school. Is it weird that I like this idea?

Karofsky and Santana wearing matching red berets
Plus, they just look cute

They tell Azimio to stop bullying a kid and I just have to share you this line, "That's a YP- Your problem, not an MP - My problem." Why am I sharing this? Because it's clunky. I'm sure that Brad thought he was being super quippy and clever but no, it sounds terrible. Dollars to doughnuts, he wrote it "That's a YP, not an MP" but then everyone asked him what the fuck that meant so instead of axing it, he added the explainers. Brad, honey, just have him speak like a person. "That's a you problem, not a me problem." Still quippy but less clunky. You're welcome. We flash back to the classroom where Karofsky promises to reach out to Kurt individually to make amends.

We cut to Burt being not too pleased about this situation in Figgins' office. Kurt is also there, as well as Karofsky and his dad. Mr. Karofsky pleads his son's case and that he should be given a second chance as neither he or Burt were particularly accepting of gay people when they were younger either. Burt isn't having it because Karofsky threatened Kurt's life. Karofsky claims it was just a figure of speech and Will, who's also here for some reason, points out that words still matter. Also, threatening someone's life is not a figure of speech? It's a literal threat. Burt doesn't believe he's changed but Kurt is willing to accept it and Burt thinks he's just desperate to come back to this school. Burt calling it like he sees it. Kurt asks to speak with Karofsky alone, so everyone leaves. Karofsky eventually fesses up to this whole thing being Santana's idea so that Kurt would come back and she'd win votes for Prom Queen. Kurt is disgusted and impressed by her deviousness. He agrees to come back as long as Karofsky leaves him alone and that he start a chapter of Parents, Family, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays at the school so he can educate himself on the issues without having to come out. Karofsky begrudgingly agrees.

We get a brief scene of Rachel in a bathroom, looking at her face in the mirror when Puck walks in. She asks what he's doing there but he sidesteps that to make his case about her not getting a nose job. Why is Puck going out of his way to be supportive of Rachel instead of Finn? He tells her to meet him tomorrow for one hour and she agrees.

In the courtyard at lunch, the glee club are waiting and Mercedes says that since it's officially noon, that means that Kurt Hummel is back at McKinley. They all hug and it's great but like am I the only one thinking that it's pretty convenient that he's able to switch schools, compete with the rival glee club and then when that glee club fails, he conveniently switches back to the winning school so he gets to go to Nationals? Feels pretty icky and suspicious, Kurt. Hedging your bets, were you? Oh wow, I just kind of sounded like Yoda there. Sorry, I am. Blaine and the Warblers have also shown up to say goodbye to Kurt via one last stupid song that I wish was the end of this arc but I will never be rid of Blaine ever and it sucks. Anyway, they sing Somewhere Only We Know by Keane and it's ok. Kurt says he's never saying goodbye to Blaine and they hug. Immediately after this scene we get Kurt singing As If We Never Said Goodbye from G*psy and I'm putting it here because the scene is just him singing while the glee clubbers look on tearfully and I'm bored. It's nice that Kurt gets a solo upon his return when he got shoved to the background but it's not my kind of song. Sorry again.

Lauren walks past Quinn and calls her Lucy and she stops dead in her tracks to ask what she called her. Lauren explains that she called her Lucy because after a bunch of digging she located her old middle school where she didn't find a Quinn Fabray but a Lucy Q. Fabray only she had a different nose and was way overweight. Quinn admits she had a nose job and that her middle name is Quinn because she didn't want to go by Lucy anymore since kids made up a mean nick name. Lucy Caboosey. I hate this little plot line so much because it's one of those things the show puts in as a joke and it's never of consequence again. What good will this background info do in characterizing Quinn? Nothing. She was far more compelling as a pretty catholic girl under immense pressure to remain as such. Not some secret, actually used to be "ugly" backstory. Anyway, Quinn confesses to changing herself because she loves herself and hated the way she looked. Lauren tells her that she's a fraud and that no one will vote for her if they find out she's not someone they should aspire to. She tells her to check the bulletin board, so Quinn tearfully runs towards it to find an enlarged poster of her younger self with "Vote for Quinn Fabray" on it. She rips it down and runs away, crying. I don't know what the point of this is. Were we supposed to want this comeuppance for Quinn? Because I just feel bad for her and think that Lauren is a bitch.

Rachel and Puck are at a mall and she asks why they're there. Puck brings out Kurt who says that she might listen to Barbara Streisand. Rachel looks around excitedly for her but she's not actually here because, as Kurt points out, this is a mall in Ohio. He gives her a big speech about how Barbara refused to give in to Hollywood's beauty standards and instead, redefined them. Rachel thinks she can't be like her because she's one in a billion and Kurt tells her that she is too. Aw, this is sweet. Anyway, they do a gigantic flashmob to Duck Sauce by Barbara Streisand which is basically an instrumental dance song where every once in a while they just say "Barbara Streisand" it's weird. The flashmob is cute though and I like when they pull Rachel to the middle and point to her when they say it one time. I don't understand how singing "Barbara Streisand" at her will change her mind but it's a sweet moment.

Crowd pointing at Rachel while Kurt and Finn lip sync Barbara Streisand
A weird but sweet moment

Emma is disinfecting a chair and finally sits down, only for her therapist to tell her that they're out of time. Emma is shocked but the therapist gently tells her that OCD is very treatable through medication and Behavioural Therapy. Emma doesn't feel so confident it will help and thinks this is who she is and how she's meant to be. The therapist tells her that her illness is not who she's meant to be and I might have teared up with Emma at hearing those words. At least Brad got this part right? Please only talk to your therapist about your illness and tell Will to back the fuck off. She prescribes Emma an SSRI and asks to see her next week. Just a side note that this one visit and one prescription? Probably isn't the end of the line for Emma. They won't bring it up again because in their minds, this is now a resolved plot point but in reality, it takes a while to find the right dose. Months, years for some people. Don't feel like you can't be helped because the first thing didn't work. Mental Health is not a precise science right now and they have to guess at what dose your brain needs to function properly. She'll have to continually see her doctor, be honest with how she feels on the medication, get adjustments along the way. On top of that, she'll have to learn about Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and apply mindfulness, she's going to slip up and that's ok. It's hard to learn these things and remember to be mindful all the time when we're not used to it. Slip ups happen, it's valid and it takes practice to get good at something. Be kind to yourself and keep trying. You are worth it.

Finn consoles Quinn by her locker because she thinks she's going to lose. He shows her a picture he has in his wallet, a picture of his girlfriend and he pulls out the Lucy Caboosey photo. She hates it and asks why he has that when she looks so bad and Finn tells her that he loves the photo because he can really see her in it. It's been a long time since I've seen Finn do something actually supportive and nice for his girlfriend. He leaves and three girls stop by the poster and fawn over how Quinn is an inspiration that anyone can fix themselves up. Quinn gets hopeful eyes and Lauren tells her that she's up in the polls. She admits that what she did wasn't cool and she had the results coming to her. Quinn says she respects Lauren because she had to go through so much effort to feel confident when Lauren just is confident. Lauren says that she was considering going blonde but Quinn tells her that red would be better and Lauren is all for that. Honestly, I am too because I think Quinn is super right that Lauren would look badass as a redhead. Like, fire engine red.

Next, Brittany and Santana are showing off their t-shirts. Brittany's says "I'm with stoopid" which...isn't one word. I thought it was supposed to be a word representing their insecurities that they can't change? Santana gets it. She chose Bitch although maybe she doesn't because she can absolutely change that, she just doesn't want to. Brittany pulls a Will and says that it's not the word she should have chosen. It's cute that she holds up a shirt that says Lebanese when she meant Lesbian but also? Don't tell someone to come out when they're not ready. That's so not cool. What's with people dictating how other people get to describe their insecurities? What if that's the thing they want to express? Because if they go with what you want, then it defeats the purpose of the assignment anyway because you're wearing a word that other people see as your insecurities. Everyone fails. Brittany gets mad and tells Santana she doesn't love herself because she doesn't accept that she's lesbian and if she did, she would wear the shirt and dance with her. I don't get this drama. If Brittany is so upset, why didn't she break up with Artie? I mean, I'm kind of on Santana's side here in that Brittany doesn't get to tell her how she feels or who she dates.

It's the end of the lesson/episode so Will has gathered everyone to share their shirts. Will reveals his is "BUTT CHIN" which got a laugh from me. Rachel comes in and reveals that she cancelled her appointment and then made her own shirt, which has the word "NOSE" on it. Rachel did the assignment right. Everyone wonders where Santana is and Sam says that she's probably off making out with Karofsky, which gets awkward looks from everyone and he finally acknowledges that he was dating her by saying "Yeah, he can have her." So, I guess he's fine with her just going with Karofsky and not telling him? Okey dokey. The gang sing Born This Way by Lady Gaga to end off the episode. I just need to say this but every time I hear this song, my mind just turns it into Express Yourself by Madonna. Anyway, they're all wearing their shirts. For funsies, let's see what everyone put:

Will: BUTT CHIN, Rachel: NOSE, Finn: CAN'T DANCE, Quinn: LUCY CABOOSEY, Mercedes: NO WEAVE, Tina: BROWN EYES, Mike: CAN'T SING, Brittany: I'M WITH STOOPID (arrow pointing to her head), Puck: I'M WITH STUPID (arrow pointing to his *SIGH* crotch), Lauren: BAD ATTITUDE, Kurt: LIKES BOYS, Artie: FOUR EYES, Sam: TROUTY MOUTH (poor Sam lol), Emma: OCD, and finally Santana: LEBANESE

So, yes, Emma does capitulate to Will's insistence and wears the OCD shirt. I kind of hate it. I love that she got help and the therapist was shown as supportive. I hate that this frames how Will behaved as right. Let her wear her damn GINGER shirt and heal herself in private. We close out the episode showing that Santana is watching the performance with Karofsky and she's wearing the shirt Brittany made her. I want to like that but I don't like how their relationship is being framed. Are they actually destined to be together but torn apart by circumstance? Or, does Santana just view Brittany as a child she can manipulate for her own gain? It's gross.

So, that was Born This Way and I really wanted to like this episode. I tried but honestly, I have to give this episode an "I" for Infuriating and Irresponsible. Trash this entire episode but keep I Feel Pretty/Unpretty, please. It was the only worthwhile part of this thing. I don't know how to end this other than to encourage anyone struggling with mental health to reach out and get help. Most cities have programs set up for people, crisis lines, crisis centers. You matter, your feelings are valid and your own, you deserve to be well.

I am so happy that our next episode is a tribute episode that I actually like because it's Rumours in which they sing a whole bunch of Fleetwood Mac songs. If nothing else, at least I'll have great songs to listen to. Until then, be happy and be safe.
